Beschreibung:

.45-70 cal., 22" round barrel, S/N 12322? (the last number is worn off). Walnut stock. Buttplate removed. The natives like to use them for hide scrapers. Buttplate was replaced using a piece of buffalo hide that may be from the belly, held to the stock with brass tacks. Oval piece of freshwater shell is tacked to the right side of stock. Forward part of the stock has another piece of buffalo hide held to the stock with brass tacks, and three large tacks are parallel with the barrel on both sides of the stock. These tacks are about the size of a nickel. Most of the time one only sees one size tack used, but this gun is decorated with several sizes in a unique design. According to stories handed down with the gun, because laws in many Southwest towns made it illegal for Indians to bring their firearms into town when they came, many were hidden just outside town limits. The dry climate of the desert preserved some of the more fragile elements, such as the fur on the hide. This a great looking Indian-used carbine, and would make a wonderful addition to any Western collection. Condition: Rear barrel sight was broken off; one can still see where the sight screws were worn off. Even though the rear sight is gone, the remains are still intact. All metal shows use and has a deep dark brown patina mixed with pitting. Bore is shot out. Stock has that well used look and is weathered from the elements.
