illustrator & artist) A collection of original artwork, etchings and family-related photographs and other ephemera, including 2 larger pen ink & watercolour depictions of fairies (both moonlit scenes, one depicting two fairies flying & dancing in front of the moon [c .420 x 230 mm.], the other two fairies sitting on a branch with a bumblebee [c. 355 x 255 mm.]), with 2 further, smaller pen ink & watercolour studies (one fairies sitting on branches with budgerigars [c. 200 x 170 mm.], the other a girl collecting flowers near a riverbank [c. 215 x 165 mm., used to illustrate 'Lucy' by Walter De La Mare]), all on board and framed & glazed, and 2 more, slightly less finessed original pen ink & watercolour sketches of fairies, entitled 'Blue-Bells at Sauncey Wood' and 'Gaiety', both in original card frames with wash borders, all signed by the artist; two small, postcard-sized original pen ink & watercolours including a sketch of a fairy dressed in brown sitting on a toadstool, both unsigned; 5 original pen & ink illustrations for De La Mare's 'Lucy', signed by the illustrator, with pencil caption and instruction for placement beneath, hinged into card window-framed mounts; 17 accomplished etchings of children and fairies, with artist's monogram, heightened with white, spotting affecting a few; with a small group of photographic portraits, school reports and other ephemera relating to the Baker and Miller family, plus 2 portfolios of 28 original watercolour views of family holidays around Britain, including Cornwall, Devon and Scotland (mounted onto card, images from c. 150 x 225 mm., unsigned), v.s., v.d. (sm. qty) *** Hilda T. Miller [née Baker] (1876-1939), artist and illustrator, studied at Birmingham Art School, the Slade and St Albans Art School. Following her success as an illustrator for postcards, greetings cards and promotional material commissioned by Liberty & Co., she went on to illustrate several well-received and popular books for children in the 1920s, including The Story of Dulcibella and the Fairies by Alice M. Raiker (1919), Grimm's Fairy Tales (1921), The Rose Fyleman Fairy Book (1923) and Lucy by Walter De La Mare (1927).
