Large or full-page miniature (160 x 110 mm) showing Saint John seated on a grassy knoll writing his gospels before a receding landscape, a banderol below him with the first words of John's gospel, 'In principio erat Verbum …', beneath is an eagle, the symbol of Saint John, the whole framed by two columns; 15 lines of text on the verso. Matted. Condition : some flaking and rubbing. The master's style and the format he uses is comparable to a Book of Hours by Colombe dated to c.1480 in Paris (Bibliothèque Nationale, N.a.lat. 3181), F. Avril and N. Reynaud, Les Manuscrits à peinture en France, 1440 - 1520, p.334-335.
