Dodsley, [(?) 1778], 4° in 2's, FIRST EDITION (title and blank verso of final leaf soiled), erased manuscript note in Greek on p. 15. [Based upon the 15th elegy of the first book of Ovid, the Latin text of which is prefaced to the work] (ii) [ANSTEY, Christopher.] The Patriot; A Pindarick Address to Lord Buckhorse. The second edition with an appendix , Cambridge: by Fletcher & Hodson, and sold by J. Dodsley, S. Crowder, J. Almon and M. Hingeston, London, 1768, 4°, second edition, PRESENTATION COPY, title inscribed "R. Graves from the author -- Christopher Ansty Esq." (title and blank verso of final text leaf soiled, wanting final advertisement leaf), occasional manuscript corrections (?) by the author. [Buckhorse was a prize fighter. "R. Graves" of the inscription is presumably Richard Graves (1715-1804), author of The Spiritual Quixote (1772)] (iii) [ANSTEY, Christopher.] Speculation; or, A Defence of Mankind. Dodsley, 1780, 4°, FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, title inscribed "The Author to RG" [Richard Graves] with the word "From" shaved away (G2 with paper fault at outer margin, wanting final advertisement leaf). (iv) [ANSTEY, Christopher.] The Priest Dissected; A poem addressed to the Rev. Mr.------, author of Regulus, Toby, Caesar, and other satirical pieces in the public papers , Bath: by S. Hazard, and sold by Dodsley and Wilkie, London, [1774], 4°, first or second issue, engraved title vignette (title cropped with partial loss of first word and partial loss of imprint, lacks half title), with an interesting manuscript alteration (?) by the author to a couplet on p. 15 and more minor corrections. (v) [ANONYMOUS] Ode on an evening view of the Crescent at Bath inscribed to the Rev. Sir Peter Rivers Gay, Bart. , for the author and sold by J. Dodsley, London; Frederick and Tennent, Bath; Cadell, Bristol [and others], 1773, 4°, FIRST EDITION (deep tear across B1, some soiling). [The farming interests of Sir Peter led him to spoil the view from the Crescent by growing cabbages etc.] (vi) A Receipt to make a Bath-Easton poet and to obtain a prize from the vase , Bath: by R. Crutwell for the author and sold by W. Goldsmith, London, and all the booksellers in Bath and Bristol, 1777, 4°, FIRST EDITION, with final advertisement leaf. [A RARE SATIRE on the Poetical Society instituted by Lady Anna Miller (1741-81)] (vii) A Serious Alarm to the People of Bath; or, The Diabolical Soliloquy of an Old Witch.
