Engraved document signed ("Sam Huntington President") as President of Congress, counter-signed by Sec. of State Ben Stoddart, Phila., 21 April 1780. 1 page, oblong folio, paper seal, framed . Appointing Nathaniel Donnell as Capt. in the 3rd Battn. of Artillery. Huntington was President of Congress from 1779 to 1781. -- MOOR, William. ALS to Nathaniel Donnell, "Camp Totaway" (N.J.), 7 November 1780. 1 page, 4to, integral autograph address panel, framed with the preceding . Interesting letter to Captain Donnell at West Point reporting "that Col. Ogden and Capt. Dayton...were taken at Elizabeth Town the night before last, and carried to N. York..." Jonathan Dayton (1760-1824) had been captured at his home on 5 October; he was later exchanged. Matthias Ogden (1756-1839), another New Jersey officer, was captured at the same time.
