Beschreibung:

Hunter S. Thompson typescript letter, 1959 Author: Thompson, Hunter S. Place Published: Louisville, Kentucky Date Published: September 14, 1959 Description: Signed, single page typescript letter. 28x21.5 cm (11x8½"). Signed by Hunter S. Thompson in red ink. Exceptional Hunter S. Thompson typed letter written to his friend Paul Semonin in 1959 from his home in Louisville, Kentucky, where he lived for a few months after working at ''Time'' magazine in New York. The playful, vibrant letter touches upon numerous subjects. He mentions contacting the writer William Styron for the name of his agent, and receiving an "excellent" letter in return. He references his first correspondence with author, and later friend, William Kennedy: "have been requested to do article on 'The Dry Rot of American Journalism,' (my title) for new paper in Puerto Rico---after threatening in an earlier letter to kick the editor's teeth in and ram a bronze plaque far into his small intestine." He observes, "life is good today, but tomorrow is a black and threatening mass of poverty and terror." He eventually closes the letter, "Cheers: [signed] HST.'' A wonderful letter from a 22 year old Hunter S. Thompson, at the start of his remarkable writing career. Condition: Toning, a bit of chipping at top edge; very good. Item#: 331090 Headline: Hunter S. Thompson typescript letter, 1959
