New Edition, "Revised and corrected by Charles Jones " This copy of the book belonged to George Hawkin of Bridport, Dorset, his name in ink on the blank verso of one of the billiards plates. This was the first edition of the popular book in which the game of golf appeared. The final 2½ pages are devoted to golf, "The favourite Summer Amusement in Scotland..." The section describes feathery balls, various irons, general course layouts, and one paragraph of rules. D&M 330; D&J H25510. Lot Amendments Condition: In very small and neat period hand is written in ink on the top margin of the title page, "E.Q. Weltey...1894..."; scattered and light foxing; very good. Item number: 215446
