HOLLAR, Wenceslaus (1607-1677). Le triomphe de la mort. Graveé d'apres les desseins de Holbein .[London: J. Edwards, 1790?] Small 4° (170 x 116mm). Additonal title. Engraved portrait of Hollar by Barlow, etched portrait of Holbein, 30 etched plates without borders and double page 'Procession of Death' plate by Hollar. (Occasional light spotting.) Contemporary half calf (edges rubbed, headcap chipped). FIRST REAPPEARANCE IN AN UNALTERED STATE OF HOLLAR'S DANSE MACABRE PLATES. Hollar's plates disappeared from view from about 1680, reappearing in an altered form in 1780. The present work is a publication of the plates in an unaltered condition, before 're-biting'. Richard Pennington, A Descriptive Catalogue of the Etched Work of Wencleaus Hollar 1607-1677 , Cambridge: 1982, pp.28-31, nos. 233-261, 265. Sold together with a small album of Hollar's plates, most from the Theatrum mulierum series. (2)
