Beschreibung:

Hizb from a Sejluk Qur'an, in Arabic, illuminated manuscript on paper [Sejluk Persia (probably eastern Khorasan regions), c.1100 AD] 9 leaves (plus 2 flyleaves), single column, 26 lines eastern kufic script, diacritics in red, 8 surah headings in gold kufic, outlined in black, 27 decorative ornaments to margins, coloured in turquoise and gold, some stains and smudges, a few chips to paper, outer margins repaired, 185 by 130 mm.; nineteenth-century limp morocco, ruled in blind, rebacked, scuffed and rubbed The script is notably more angular than Eastern Kufic Qur'ans from the western and more centralised regions of the Sejluk empire, suggesting that it is probably from the Khorasan regions further to the east. The small format of the manuscript firmly places it in in the early twelfth century, implying that the manuscript was copied in 30 Juz' instead of one single folio-format volume, which became the trend in Ilkhanid Persia about a century later.
