Historical portrait of a prince Delhi, circa 1850 gouache heightened with gold on paper, in a courtyard the prince sits against a cushion in conversation with his chief minister while his son sits beside them listening, an attendant with a fly-whisk stands behind, gold and black meandering vine border between gold and coloured rules, (negligible flaking), on cream leaf painted with gold, blue and red floral lattice (very minor staining), mounted, framed and glazed, miniature 6¾ x 4½in. (17.2 x 11.5cm.) and A PORTRAIT OF AHMAD SHAH, Delhi, AH 1260/1844-5 AD, gouache heightened with gold on paper, on a terrace the emperor sits on a gold throne against a cushion, holding a jewelled pin in his left hand, gold border with black rules, (negligible flaking), on green leaf divided into panels each containing information about the emperor's life, reign and death, the central two illuminated, the lower with colophon signed by Babur 'Ali Khan and dated 1260, mounted, framed and glazed miniature 6 x 4in. (15.2 x 10.1cm.) leaf 13¼ x 10in. (33.7 x 25.4cm.)
