Heures presenteés a Madame la Dauphine . Paris: Theodore de Hansy, [ca 1745-46.
Heures presenteés a Madame la Dauphine . Paris: Theodore de Hansy, [ca 1745-46.] 8 o (193 x 122 mm). Engraved throughout. Frontispiece of St. Theresa, engraved title and 5 plates by Pierre Soubeyran and Jean Raymond, numerous calligraphic ornaments. (Some pale marginal dampstaining.) Contemporary French red morocco, covers with elaborate wide gilt strapwork, shell and head-dress plaque on sides, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, board edges and turn-ins gilt, gold-starred decorated paper endleaves, edges marbled and gilt. Provenance : Ripault (book ticket with motto "d'esperer servira"); Cortlandt F. Bishop (bookplate, his sale Kende Galleries, 7 December 1948); purchased from Harry A. Levinson, 27 January 1954. A very fine binding, notable for the freshness and deep impressions of the gilding, a result of the design being from a single plaque and requiring immense pressure to adequately impress the design. These engraved Hours are dedicated to Marie-Thérèse, infante of Spain, daughter of Philippe V, dauphine of France by her marriage to Louis XV France. They were married on February 23, 1745 and she died July 23, 1746. This edition was therefore prepared sometime in this interstice. Cohen-de Ricci 487.
