Herbarius Latinus [ with German synonyms ]. [Passau: Johann Petri, about 1486]. Chancery 4to, 215 x 157mm. (8 1/2 x 6 3/16 in.), contemporary quarter pigskin over wooden boards, the leather on covers blind-stamped with a triple-fillet panel enclosing a diamond-shaped double-headed eagle tool repeated five times (this tool possibly the same as Schwenke-Sammlung Adler 417, attributed to Ulm), spine in four compartments with five raised double bands, brass catch with cast inscription, remains of brass and leather clasp, edges plain, binder's waste in first quire; lower cover defective, lower cover wormed with remains of scotch tape; lacking three leaves, some mostly marginal worming, affecting a few letters of first 15 leaves and last 20 leaves, a few minor marginal tears, some offsetting of printer's ink from stacking of sheets, slight offsetting of coloring and some coloring splashed in margins, occasional marginal staining or soiling . Collation : [1 2-21 22 ]. 170 leaves (of 174?, lacking fols. 1/1 [blank?], 1/4 [second leaf of table], 3/2 [figure 10, Anetum], and 22/10 [last text leaf]), without signatures or foliation. Types: 2:150 (headings and chapter numeration); 1:92 (text). 32 lines. 149 (of 150) half-page woodcuts, COLORED IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND. Spaces for initials, supplied in red.
