Additional engraved title, 2 large folding maps and 2 folding plates, with the 5 inserted leaves between quires N & O (some light dampstaining, some splitting to folds of maps, with minor loss of text). Contemporary vellum (some staining). FIRST EDITION of the latter part of this important account of Hennepin's travels in what is now the United States and Canada. "His work forms one of the most important volumes in the early history of North America. He lived for eleven years on this continent and penetrated farther into the then unknown interior than anyone before him. He was the discoverer and explorer of the upper reaches of the Mississippi and the first to describe Niagara Falls." (Lande). One of the two plates is THE FIRST ENGRAVED VIEW OF THE NIAGARA FALLS.
