HELMAN, Isidore Stanislas Henri. Faits Memorables des Empoereurs de la Chine, tires des annales , Paris: chez l'auteur et chez Ponce, [1788]. 2, engraved throughout, including title, dedication with armorial head-piece, 24 leaves of text and engraved plates numbered 1-24, some with tissue guards on papier de hollande (some spotting and staining mostly confined to margins), early calf (very worn), t.e.g. The most luxurious issue of this work, on papier de Hollande . According to the title page, this issue was originally priced at 48 livres. The work could also be purchased unbound at 12 livres, in paper wrappers at 13 livres and 10 francs, and unbound but on papier velin at 18 livres. It was to be published in four parts, appearing every two months from 15th April onwards. The plates are based on drawings by the Jesuit, Father Attiret, on the orders of the Emperor of China, and through the mediation of the Compagnie des Indes. Cohen-De Ricci 447; Lust 729.
