Keller, Helen (1880-1968). Signed silver gelatin photograph bearing the blindstamp of photographer W.D. Fink, US Lines, showing Helen Keller, Anne Sullivan Macy, and Polly Thomson pictured aboard the SS President Roosevelt ca 1932. They are having dinner with Captain Van Beck. Inscribed in Keller's hand along bottom portion of print, "To Mr Schaeffer with my good wish," and signed along lower margin, "Helen Keller." Also signed by Polly Thomson, with Sullivan identified in what looks to be Thomson's hand. Verso inscription reads, in part: "Captain Van Beck, S.S. President Roosevelt tells a ____ story." Photograph, including margins, 7.5 x 9.5 in. (sight), framed, 8.75 x 10.75 in. Anne Sullivan remained as Helen Keller's companion until her death in 1936. Even after Sullivan married John Macy in 1905, Keller lived with the couple. When her health started failing in 1914, Polly Thomson was hired as a housekeeper. Although Thomson had no experience with the blind or deaf, she learned quickly, and became Keller's secretary and another companion. The three were often called the "Three Musketeers" in their fight on behalf of the blind and others. Keller was a pacifist, socialist, suffragette, labor rights advocate, and supported many other radical causes. After Anne's death in 1936, Polly remained with Keller. She had a stroke in 1957, and died three years later. Condition: Photograph with many creases and some damage to the corners. However, Keller and Thomson's signatures looks to be in very good condition.
