Heinrich Zille (German, 1858-1929) Straßenzenen (Street Scenes)/Portfolio of Twelve Photographs, 1890s-1910s, printed 1975, number 1 from the edition of 100 and 10 artist's proofs, published by Schirmer/Mosel, Munich. Each stamped with the publisher's seal and print date and numbered in pencil on the verso l.c. Gelatin silver prints, image sizes to 8 x 10 3/4 in. (20.2 x 27.3 cm), matted, housed in a blue portfolio case. Condition: Good. N.B. Heinrich Zille was acclaimed for his prints, drawings, and illustrations reflecting the everyday reality of Berliners at the turn of the 20th century. Because his photographs were intended as reference material for his work in other media, they are not as well known. Yet, they represent important social documents of life in Berlin during this period as suggested by the recent publication Heinrich Zille Old-Time Berlin. Photographs 1880-1920 (Schirmer/Mosel, 2014). The modern prints in this portfolio were hand-printed from the original glass negatives.
