Leket Shoshanim (commentary on the Zohar [here: Exodus-Deuteronomy] based on the teachings of Isaac Luria, Hayyim Vital, Abraham Azulai and other kabbalists). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [North Africa, mid-18th century] 4 o (220 x 165 mm). 291 leaves. Brown ink. North African semi-cursive script. (Soiled and browned, with severe ink corrosion in the larger part of the volume, sometimes affecting readability.) Modern blind and gold-tooled brown morocco. CONTENTS: Fols. 1r-140r: Exodus; 140v-145v: blank; 146r-223r: Leviticus; 223v-282r: Numbers; 282r-290v: Deuteronomy; 291rv: originally blank, with various old jottings and inscriptions. The commentary was composed by Isaiah ben Joseph Hakohen and Jacob Pinto, both pupils of Abraham ben Israel Azulai (d. 1741) in Morocco, who are named as the authors in the commentary of Shalom Buzaglo (c. 1700-1780) on the Zohar, Mikdash Melekh , which often quoted Leket Shoshanim . One of the authors mentions that while he was writing this commentary Abraham Azulai died. On Leket Shoshanim , cf. M. The first part of this work, on Genesis, is extant in two other manuscripts (New York, JTS 1828, and Jerusalem, Mossad ha-Rav Kook 51). According to a note in Spanish at the end of the manuscript, this volume belonged to Shalom Buzaglo who was preparing a copy to be sent with Solomon Morenu de Paz to be printed in Amsterdam.
