Persian manuscript in black nasta'liq script, first 2f. with elaborately decorated boarders, 5 full-page miniatures, all hand-coloured and heightened with gold, text ruled in blue, orange and gold with interlinear colouring also in gold, colourful floral decorations throughout, a few early repairs to outer margins (not affecting text), light finger-soiling, auction record pasted to lower pastedown, contemporary morrocco, head of spine split along creases, spine ends a little chipped with slight loss, rubbed and lightly soiled, small 8vo (c.160 x 95mm), [Persia], 1241 AH [1825 AD]. *** A fine and beautifully decorated example of the Divan [poetical works] by Persia's most beloved and renowned poet Hafez (1325/26-1389/90 AD). Provenance: Presented by C.F.G.R.Schwerdt for sale in the Christie's Red Cross sale of 1918.
