In 1924, the du Bois family had moved to France, renting a home in Garnes in the Chevreuse Valley. With financial support from painting sales from Kraushaar Galleries, they were able to remain there for six years. Du Bois later recalled, "It was in Garnes that I learned to paint." This work was painted during that sojourn, when the landscapes in his compositions became increasingly important to the artist. C Estate of Charles W. Kraushaar, Jr.
Overall fine condition. Yellow, dirty varnish layer, accretion of grime beneath frame. Overall excellent condition, no evidence of craquelure.
