Lot of 14 photographs, ranging in size from 6.75 x 4.875 in. to 9.5 x 7.625 in., including one image framed to 13.375 x 11.375 in. Collection captures various modes of transportation popular in the early twentieth century, including interior and exterior views of trolleys and trains. Some photographs feature passengers and conductors, including those of a uniformed train employee checking a female passenger's ticket, as well as a trolley driver monitoring a rider's descent. An opulent interior view of a Pullman Palace Car displays furnishings such as a floral carpet, heavy draperies, and a tête-à-tête sofa, with caption on verso reading, "Observation car used in Auden edition of [Henry] James - THE AMERICAN SCENE." Also featured in this lot is a well-composed image of workmen walking alongside the train tracks of a damaged drawbridge in Bayonne, NJ. Another photograph of note dated 1951 shows a camera crew perched on top of a train engine emitting billowing clouds of black smoke, in order to capture scenes in the MGM historical thriller The Tall Target.
