lot of five including Acts of the Legislature of Pennsylvania Establishing an Uniform System of Police for the Philadelphia Police District and for other Purposes: Passed May 3, 1850 together with the Rules and Regulations of the Police Department., anonymous, Philadelphia 1854, 16mo in self wraps, 40pp, PLUS Important Documents Which Accompanied The Message of the President of the United States at the Opening of the Second Session of the Eleventh Congress November 1809, 1809, Prior & Dunning, New York, 12mo in self wraps sewn binding with an 88pp group of letters and an 8pp document with an 1809 document from the British detailing the closure of navigation of all enemies of Britain or allies of France and message to Congress in response to this closure of American ports from the president, James Madison, PLUS An Adopted Daughter or The White Slave by C.G., 1878, Evansville, Ind., I. Esslinger printer, 12mo in embossed brown cloth boards with gilt title on cover, frontis illustration, 103pp; PLUS 19th century Bound Manuscript Love Poem, 19th century pocket poetry book. Excerpts include When a voice, that long has been unheard, Will speak in thine ear, this startling word; "Dust thou art; to dust shall be, But thy soul will exist thro' Eternity." Original yellow card stock wrap 12pp, 32mo, AND pamphlet entitled Borden Institute, New Providence, Indiana a large 12mo, 4pp (including cover) pamphlet extolling the advantages of this newly formed college, printed by Republican Leader Print, Salem, Ind., n.d. but ca 1860-70s. The town of New Providence was founded in the 1820s and named after the capital of Rhode Island. In the mid-1800s the Borden Institute was founded by John Borden as a college. The town honored him by renaming the town, unofficially, Borden; it officially became Borden in 1994. Condition: 1st minor soil on wraps, ex lib and slight loss at top margin of front wrap, else VG; 2nd untrimmed edges, scattered foxing and margin wear, VG; 3rd cracked hinges and very slight shelf wear, VG-; 4th surface wear, else perfect; 5th minor damp stain along right margin and a few penciled notes on interior, VG-.
