GREAT WAR INTEREST - a collection of ephemera relating to Major Charles Ward-Jackson-including one important volume "Extracts from Letters written in France during The Great War by Major C.L.A. Ward-Jackson to his wife 1915-1918" containing two appreciations printed in The Times Thursday May 8th 1930 and Monday May 12th 1930 followed by a large collection of letters sent between April 18th 1915 (Havre) and February 1st 1918 - Major Ward-Jackson-returned to England and was appointed A.D.C to Lt. General Sir T. D'Oyly Snow in August 1918, 664 pages, 731 pages including detailed index, marbled paper board bound with tooled and gilded cloth board spine, (compiled and bound by Queenie Ward-Jackson-- wife of the author), together with one volume "Greater Love - Letters Home 1914-1918" edited by Michael Moynihan, published by W H Allen London 1980, two photograph albums containing various family photographs, one containing home views, skiing holidays, racing scenes and the other containing photographs of residencies abroad dated January 19th 1912 - 24th April 1912 with various photographs, inscriptions and signatures of some characters therein, tooled and gilded blue leather bound, inscribed to cover "Q.W.J.1912" and a leather leg'mutton gun case inscribed "Capt Ward-Jackson" and bearing Boss & Co. paper label to the end and two framed and glazed photographic portrait studies of Ward-Jackson-(Queenie Ward-Jackson- wife of Charles Ward-Jackson-- Queenie Ward-Jackson-was the daughter of Alfred Biet Life Governor of DeBeers) (Provenance: Major Charles Lionel Atkins Ward-Jackson-1869-28 April 1930 educated at Eton, served in the 3rd Yorkshire Regiment from 1891, appointed a Lieutenant in the Yorkshire Hussars 26th May 1897, volunteered for Active Service in the 2nd Boer War late 1899 and seconded to the Imperial Yeomanry 24th February 1900, appointed Lieutenant in the 66th Company of the 16th Battalion, twice mentioned in Dispatches, relinquished Commission in the Imperial Yeomanry August 1901, granted Honorary Rank of Captain after returning to the UK, was appointed Captain in the Yorkshire Hussars 21st May 1902 and resigned in 1907, active during World War I serving with the Yorkshire Hussars in France (when these letters were written). Political career - contested Manchester South as a Unionist January 1910 failed to win seat, December 1918 elected as Coalition Conservative for Leominster, holding the seat until the 1922 Election when he transferred to Harrow Constituency in London running as the official Conservative candidate, former Conservative member Oswald Moseley ran as an Independent and won the seat, thereafter)
