GRAY, Thomas. The Poems of Mr. Gray. To which are added Memoirs of his Life and Writings by W. Mason , York: for A. Ward, and sold by J. Dodsley, T Cadell and J. Todd, 1778. 4 volumes, 8°, etched portrait frontispiece by W. Doughty (occasional ink stains and soil marks, but generally crisp and clean), contemporary speckled calf, backs with title lettered on green morocco label, and volume number directly tooled beneath (slight flaking), yellow edges. Provenance : R. Moody, early ownership signature on front free endpaper of volume III. BURNS, Robert. Poems chiefly in the Scottish Dialect , Edinburgh: by Adam Neil for T. Cadell jun. and W. Davies, and W. Creech, 1800. 2 volumes, 8°, half titles, stipple-engraved portrait frontispiece by I. Beugo after A. Nasmyth (light browning prevalent, occasional soiling), contemporary tree calf, sides with scrolled line rule and centre panel of polished calf ornamented with a gilt rope-work border, smooth spines in compartments with black morocco lettering-pieces and repeated bird emblems in gilt, marbled endpapers. Provenance : Charles William Hamilton, bookplate. GAY, John. Fables , London: printed by C. Whittingham for G. and J. Robinson R. Baldwin [and others], [1800?]. 8°, engraved title with vignette portrait and one plate, engraved head-piece to each of the 67 fables, woodcut tail-pieces (occasional marginal soiling), contemporary straight-grained crimson morocco gilt by J. Price of Bath decorated with floral tools and dots between the lines of the panelled covers, inner angles of both centre panels with foliate tooling, the front cover with centrally-placed emblem of a stag, the rear centre panel unfilled, spine lettered in one compartment, the remainder with a repeated arabesque of flowers (extremities only lightly rubbed), gilt turn-ins, g.e., binder's ticket to front pastedown. With Specimens of the Early English Poets (London, 1790), and 5 others works in 8 volumes, all English verse published either in the late 18th century or 1800, and all in contemporary bindings. (16)
