Contemporary half-morocco, spine titles gilt, marbled endpapers. Folding plate backed with linen with lower half separated and with long repaired horizontal tear to same, short tear to margin of one other plate, some marginal fingersoiling, but plates overall clean and colors bright. Provenance: Walter Behrnard Sampson (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Gould's second monograph, originally published in 3 parts, in which thirty-four species are treated, Gould having added twelve to the twenty-two species then known. The magnificent colored plates are accompanied by descriptive text giving a diagnosis in Latin, measurements, synonyms, and information about the history, habitat and iconography of each bird.
