Beschreibung:

GIUSTI, Giovanni Francesco. [Views of the Villa Mansi, near Lucca. ?Lucca: circa 1780]. 2° (580 x 450mm. approx.) On guards throughout. 8 engraved plates (six views, one double-page bird's-eye-view and one double-page plan), all by Giuseppe Angeli after Giusti, extra-illustrated with AN ORIGINAL PEN, INK AND WASH DRAWING OF THE FRONT ELEVATION OF THE VILLA MANSI (694 x 454mm., folding and backed onto modern paper), A PEN, INK AND COLOURED WASH DRAWING OF ARCHITECURAL DETAILS (520 x 365mm., browned, lower corner repaired), PEN, INK AND WASH ELEVATION AND PLAN OF PROPOSED ALTERATIONS TO THE FONTANAZZA, DATED 1793, WITH PLAN OF THE EXISTING BUILDING BENEATH (480 x 360mm., creased), and two pen, ink and wash drawings of an architectural detail (440 x 300mm.) and plan and elevation of a bridge (490 x 350mm.). Modern thin-card boards. The Villa Mansi, altered by Abbate Giusti and laid out with an 'English' garden, was the casa di campagna of Marchese Luigi Mansi, in the district of Segromigno, about 10kms. from the city of Lucca. The first drawing, presumably by Mansi, is of the front elevation of the house, the remaining drawings do not seem to have any obvious connection to the villa as built, but may well be later proposed alterations.
