GEORGE MORRISON HENRY: COLOURED PLATES OF THE BIRDS OF CEYLON…- WITH A SHORT DESCRIPTION OF EACH BIRD BY W E WAIT, [Columbo], the Ceylon Government, 1927-1935, parts 1-4 in original printed parts, 4 volumes, 64 coloured plates as called for, parts 1-3 association copies having belonged to Dr Casey Albert Wood (1856-1942), with his ownership signature and inscription to top wrap of part 1 “Casey A Wood, Kandy, July 29/33”, printed preface states “…the interests of Dr Casey Wood, a well known American ornithologist, were enlisted when he was visiting Ceylon. It is not too much to say that, had it not been for Dr Wood’s keenness and generosity, the publication of the present work might have been delayed for some years – if not permanently. Not only did Dr Wood use his good offices with the Governor and the Colonial Secretary of Ceylon in urging upon them the importance of this work, but he made himself responsible for the cost of the original paintings from which the coloured plates have been made. I take this opportunity of recording, on behalf of the Ceylon Government, an expression of deep appreciation of the services thus rendered by Dr Casey Wood.”, contents loose as issued housed in folio, original printed wraps (worn), part 1 lacks paper wrap at spine, parts 2 and 3 with some small losses and tears (4)
