Height 32 3/4 inches (83.3 cm), height (extended) 79 inches (200.7 cm), width 48 1/4 inches (122.5 cm), depth 24 1/4 inches (62.2 cm). Provenance: Sold, Christie's, New York, June 30, 1979, . The design for the present libary steps was patented by the London cabinet-maker Robert Campbell in 1774 and was later illustrated in Thomas Sheraton's The Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, 3rd edition, London, 1802, plate V.
