George II Inlaid Figured and Burr Walnut Bureau Cabinet Circa 1730 In two parts, the upper section with molded open pediment above a pair of beveled mirrored doors opening to an interior fitted with pigeonholes and two niche-fronted drawers over a burr walnut drawer and paneled prospect doors flanked by engaged fluted pilaster fronts released by a catch and opening to three secret drawers, further flanked by folio slides and small drawers, all above an arrangement of short, long and deep burr-walnut drawers, above candle slides, the fall front opening to a prospect door with secret compartments to the sides with sliding panels, flanked by pigeonholes over long and short drawers, one an inkwell drawer, all over three frieze drawers and three graduated long drawers, raised on bracket feet. Height 96 inches (243.9 cm), width 42 inches (106.7 cm), depth 24 inches (61 cm). Provenance: Hyde Park Antiques, New York. C
Good restored condition, fine quality, age cracks to veneers along lines of construction to cornice and fall front, commensurate with age, mirror plates later, replacements to veneers, especially to right top corner, secret compartments behind pilasters flanking prospect doors, lower section with replacements and losses to thumbmolded edge at top of bottom section, secret compartments to interior of prospect door of fitted section, age cracks and lifting to veneers of writing surface. age cracls to sides of upper and lower sections, handles and feet later.
