Beschreibung:

George Harrison A 1962 Rickenbacker 425, Serial No. BH 439, in black finish , double cutaway body, twenty-one fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, headstock with white plastic Rickenbacker logo, two 'toaster top' pickups (one added later), two rotary controls (replaced), two switches metal bridge and tailpiece and white pickguard; and a black rectangular hardshell case with white stencilled lettering on both sides SLADE and stylised IMPALA lettering on the lid and light blue plush lining; and a quantity of documentation confirming the guitar's provenance The lettering in this guitar's serial number indicates its production date. B denotes the year it was made - 1962, the lettering system started with A in 1961. H the month in that year i.e. the eighth month being August. Purchased by George Harrison in America in September, 1963, Harrison had this Rickenbacker sprayed black, and used it on Top Of The Pops the following year. He is pictured using it also on Ready Steady, Go! , 4th October, 1963, in a programme that was repeated in part on 8th November, 1963 and again, in full, on the 31st December, 1963. Interestingly, a photograph on an accompanying reproduction of page 18 from Beat Monthly , August, 1964 shows John Lennon playing this guitar, which would suggest that he borrowed it occasionally. We understand that Harrison added the second pickup and made any of it's other modifications, in the mid to late 1960s, and in 1971, he gave this guitar, to Apple cutting engineer, and rhythm guitarist with Matchbox - George Peckham.
