Beschreibung:

GEORGE ABBOTT Sketches about Kurrah Mannickpore by Lieut. G Abbott 15th Regt Nat Infy in the Service of the Honorable East India Company. London: Engelmann, Graf & Coindet [for Colnaghi & Son and Smith Elder & Co.], 1831. Oblong 2° (340 x 490mm). 1p. letterpress description. Hand-coloured lithographic title, dedication and nine plates by F.Nicholson and others after Abbott, all on India paper, mounted. (Some light marginal soiling, lower blank margin of the final plate repaired). Later wrappers, modern green cloth portfolio. A fine series of very rare views, apparently unrecorded. The letterpress preamble makes it clear that the views were issued with the permission of the East India Company for the benefit of Abbots's widowed mother and his younger siblings, 'now in England after a long residence in India'. The views are of an area bounded by Allahabad, Fatephur, the Rivers Ganges and Yamuna, but centering on the town of Kara.
