Beschreibung:

Georg Jensen (b. Rådvad 1866, d. Hellerup 1935) An impressive and rarely offered seven-light silver chandelier with hammered surface. Baluster shape enchased with stylized foliage and berries. Ring support, circular canopy and cylindrical spacer for cord. Not marked by Georg Jensen, however verified by Georg Jensen, 1981 as design no. 225. With Swedish import marks. Made approx. 1920. Weight 4276 g. H. incl. ceiling mounting and canopy 58 cm. Diam. 60 cm. Acquired by the current owner at Bruun Rasmussen auction 431, lot no. 2226, November 1981. Information regarding provenance was provided to the current owner by auctioneer Arne Bruun Rasmussen in connection with the auction in 1981. Provenance: Swedish matchstick manufacturer, financier and industrialist Ivar Kreuger, Sweden. As a trained engineer, Kreuger (1880–1932) introduced Swedish Match AB to the international market in 1917 and soon had a monopoly on global matchstick production. Over the course of a decade, Kreuger became one of the wealthiest people in the world. His immense success as an entrepreneur helped earn him the nickname “The Match King”. His acquaintances had a lot of confidence in him and often entrusted their family fortunes to him – fortunes which he managed to the best of his ability. Kreuger’s serious passion for art was reflected in his impressive collection of silver, especially by Georg Jensen. Unprecedentedly, he commissioned a number of chandeliers for his home in Stockholm. We seldom see such a rare piece from Georg Jensen as only a limited number of chandeliers were made. This chandelier very much reflects Georg Jensen’s own dreams and objectives when it came to his designs: to create, not imitate. The chandelier is like a work of art, inspired by nature. Its organic shape and Jensen’s choice of ornamentation, berries and foliage make the chandelier both well-proportioned and elegant, yet highly imaginative and functional at the same time.
