Untitled (undated) Porcelain ht. 5, dia. 3.5 inches Born in Stoke-on-Trent where many members of his family worked in the pottery industry, Swindell studied at the Royal College of Art where he was taught by Hans Coper In 1975 he settled in Wales and, until 2003, was a lecturer at Cardiff College of Art. He is one of the most widely collected of all British ceramists known for his miniature pots, few taller than three inches and glazed with an exceptional palette of gradated greens, pinks, lilacs, and gold. The artists’ work is dedicated to what he calls “the unexpectedness” of small scale.
