Sterling Price, also known as "Old Pap," was a Missouri resident, congressman, Mexican War vet, Territorial Governor of New Mexico, and from 1852-57 the Governor of Missouri. Price achieved early success at Wilson's Creek, but his later engagements in the West were less successful. War's end found him with his command in Texas; after Appomattox he fled to Mexico, preferring exile to surrender, but with the fall of Maximillian he returned to the Union, dying in St. Louis in 1867. Condition: Most are in good condition with some toning. The tintype has some surface damage is uncased and has been clipped.
