GEE, ERNEST R. Carbon typescript for the proposed Derrydale Press reprint of The American Turf Register and Sporting Magazine. [New York: circa 1929]. Custom morocco-backed folder with gilt morocco title label to upper cover. 11 x 8 1/2 inches; 5 single-sided pp. Old horizontal fold, faint markings from paperclips and staples, else fine. Gee's proposal to reprint the entire 15-volume American Turf Register and Sporting Magazine at the Derrydale Press. In his Early American Sporting Books, Gee notes the existence of only three copies of this seminal work and expresses hope that "a new edition may be born, so that the traditions of American Sport will be worthily preserved for all time." He intended for the work to be "a complete copy of the very rare original," in 15 volumes (as was the original) and bound in half brown morocco. "[F]ine paper will be used and the original type improved upon," and the illustrations would be reproduced "from hand-made copper plates" on special paper. There are blank spaces for Connett to supply information: the number of sets, the price, and the amount per volume to be paid as the books are issued over a 15-month period.
