The first work is among the primary documents of the Picturesque movement spearheaded by Edmund Burke and William Gilpin This book was an attempt to discredit Capability Brown's theories of invasive landscaping. Price called for the recognition of the aesthetics that appear innately in Nature through time and benign neglect, a fundamentally Romantic theory of garden design. The second work provides the results of a tour by several very prominent Scottish gardeners and horticulturists to regions that had been, until recently, under Napoleonic control. C
