First work: etched title and 25 etched plates, of which 8 are full-page; second work: etched frontispiece, 61 full-page etchings, engraved title vignette. Modern speckled sheep-backed tree-calf paper boards, flat spine with 2 lettering-pieces, speckled edges (head and foot of spine discreetly repaired). FIRST EDITION of both works, often bound together. Written about 1625, the Trattato sopra gli error degli architetti expresses Gallaccini's views on restraint in art and architecture, which brought him to the attention of proponents of neo-Palladianism such as Visentini and Consul Joseph Smith. Visentini had already engraved Canaletto's views of Venice for Smith and carried out architectural commissions for the Consul, and Smith was involved in the publication of these two architectural treatises. The Feltrinelli copy has 61 plates, plus the etched frontispiece, in the Visentini, although Fowler (the only standard bibliography to give a plate count) calls for 63. However, since the etchings are integral to the pagination and there are no pages missing, it appears complete; Fowler's count presumably includes the frontispiece and title vignette.
