Brooklyn: A. Spooner, 1824. Duodecimo (7 ¾ x4 ½ inches, 197x115 mm). Crushed morocco gilt with the spine in six compartments by Alfred Matthews, t.e.g., others uncut. Condition: Front free endpaper partially detached, a few minor repaired edge tears; binding rubbed along the joints, front hinge starting. Later slipcase. Provenance : American chemist Benjamin D. Silliman, 1779-1864 (author's presentation on the title page); T. A. L. (booklabel on the front pastedown). first edition of the first separately printed history of brooklyn. A lovely presentation copy in a Matthews binding. Church 1328; Howes F434; Sabin 26220.
