FROST, ROBERT. New Hampshire. A Poem with Notes and Grace Notes. New York: Holt 1923. 8vo, original black cloth, t.e.g., others uncut, black cloth slipcase. FIRST EDITION, one of 350 copies signed by the author, INSCRIBED BY FROST "For Earle Bernheimer" (noted Frost collector) and with a 22-line excerpt from the poem "I Will Sing You One-O" (which appears on pp. 73-75 of this book) WRITTEN OUT AND SIGNED BY FROST on the front free endpaper; beside the inscription is affixed a 3-cent U.S. postage stamp honoring Joseph Pulitzer; illustrated with woodcuts by J.J. Lankes. Crane A6. New Hampshire contains the first book appearance of "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." Provenance : Earle J. Bernheimer, bookplate, inscription by him explaining the bookplate. This, and the Frost books inscribed to Bernheimer in the following 8 lots, all appeared in his sale (in various lots) at Parke-Bernet Galleries, 11-12 December 1950. His remarkable Frost collection, which included the unique copy of Twilight , totalled $14,700 for the 225 lots.
