The seconde boke answereth unto Sir Thomas More ... The thyrde boke maketh answere unto my lorde of Rochestre. [London?: 1533?]. [ Bound with :] An other boke against Rastel named the subsedye or bulwark to his first boke, made by Jhon Frithe presonner in the Tower . [London?: 1533?]. 2 works in one volume, probably as issued. Small 8vo (137 x 82mm). Collation: 1. A-L 8 . 2. A-B 8 C 1 0 . (Blank corner torn from first B1.) 19th-century calf gilt. Provenance : Johannes Webley & amicorum (late 16th-cent. signature on A2); Cardiff Castle bookplate. SECOND EDITION OF FIRST WORK first issued 1531?; ONLY EDITION OF SECOND WORK. An attack on the writings of Sir Thomas More, John Fisher and John Rastell. It was largely because of this work that Frith, on returning from exile in 1532, was arrested on a charge of heresy issued by More, as Lord Chancellor, imprisoned and and burnt. STC 11387 and 11385 (catchword on C5 'cmitte), dating both works 1537?, but the earlier date seems more plausible, based on textual evidence in the preface to the second work.
