French Republican Guard of the City of Paris Cuirassier helmet. Maker marked to rear of helmet "Siraudin & Hersant". Also stamped with various issue accountability numbers to the rear of the helmet body. The body is silvered metal with the edges banded in gilded brass. The gilded comb is decorated on both sides with volutes and laurel leaves and the front bears the head of Medusa. A black horsehair tail hangs from the rear of the comb. Slightly convex chinscales on a soft black velvet backing are attached to two large bosses. A gilded socket on the left side supports a small red horse hair plume. Seven-fingered brown leather liner. Front and rear peaks are lined with brown leather. Name scratched into the leather on the rear peak "Houdep". Good overall condition. Usual service wear to helmet.
