French Industrial Water Wheel Clock. Marble and bronze animated case in the form of a water wheel engine with 9.5 in. dia. water wheel having 16 wooden paddles, walkway around the wheel with railing, valve gear to the left raises and lowers a lever to start & stop the animated wheel which rotates counterclockwise; wheel is powered by a spring driven movement contained in the base and a series of gears drives 2 pistons in the front of the case. To the left and right are fire boxes, one with a 2 in. silvered dial with thermometer, the other with a barometer; 2.75 in. dia. silvered time dial with Roman hour numerals and a brass 8 day spring driven time only movement with cylinder escapement in running condition. Clock is in good overall condition, has a minor repair to the right rear corner of the marble, animated mechanism is running, missing keys. Wooden paddles are original and 5 have horizontal splits. 15.5 in. high x 14 in. wide x 7.25 in. deep. Weight: 43 lbs.
