Provenance : 1850 with corrections and deletions in a contemporary hand; 1851 with occasional pencil annotations. Third to fifth editions. The altered title was no doubt intended to make the Guide appeal to a broader market. The 1850 third and 1851 fourth edition are both dated on the title-page, and likewise on the front cover or wrapper; additionally, the wrapper to 1851 identifies it as the fourth edition. The 1852 fifth edition is not dated on the title, but is described as the "Guide ... for 1852" and "fifth edition" on the wrapper. Padwick 1086. (3)
