WITH: Manuscript transcript of a letter, unsigned, to "my dear friend (Madame Brillon)," tipped to front paste-down, folded. Contemporary calf, gilt filets on covers, spine gilt in 6 compartments, red morocco lettering piece. Covers detached, wear and chipping, especially to spine ends, browning and foxing throughout, some penciled marginalia, letter browned and separating at fold creases.

The letter at the back, in an unknown contemporary hand, but marked on the verso as "Dr. Franklin original," is a transcription of Franklin's famous letter to Madame Brillon, of Passy.
