Beschreibung:

FRANCESCO ZANIN Nove 1824 - 1884 Venice THE VISIT OF DOGE MOCENIGO TO SANTA MARIA DELLA CARITÀ, VENICE signed and dated lower left: Zanin Fran: 1884 inscribed on the reverse oil on canvas, unlined canvas: 20¾ by 28⅝ in.; 52.7 by 72.7 cm. framed: 25½ by 33¼ in.; 64.8 by 84.5 cm.Condition ReportThe canvas is unlined. The image reads well, the impasto is well-preserved, and the colors retain their vibrancy. There is one thin vertical line of retouching in the upper left sky, though faint and not distracting. There is a faint craquelure pattern scattered in the darks of foreground. Inspection under UV reveals a few strokes and spots of retouching around the top of the tower, left of center. There are some find and thin scattered spots of strenghtening in the sky, primarily in the darker hues in upper sky, right of center. Other than that, there are only a few small pin dots scattered here and there throughout, for example on the oar of the boat in the lower right foreground. The painting is in overall good condition and can certainly hang as is. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot and is for guidance only. Any reference to condition in the condition report for the lot does not amount to a full of condition. The images of the lot form part of the condition report for the lot provided by Sotheby's. Certain images of the lot provided online may not accurately reflect the actual condition of the lot. In particular, the online images may represent colours and shades which are different to the lot's actual colour and shades. The condition report for the lot may make reference to particular imperfections of the lot but you should note that the lot may have other faults not expressly referred to in the condition report for the lot or shown in the online images of the lot. The condition report may not refer to all faults, restoration, alteration or adaptation because Sotheby's is not a professional conservator or restorer but rather the condition report is a statement of opinion genuinely held by Sotheby's. For that reason, Sotheby's condition report is not an alternative to taking your own professional advice regarding the condition of the lot.
