Although it causes problems for the beleaguered rare book cataloger, it's hard to blame him for the various name changes over his career since his father was such a notorious skinflint. In his autobiography, Trail of An Artist-Naturalist: The Autobiography of Ernest Thompson Seton, he relates the true story of how at age 21 his father presented him with an invoice for all expenses accrued in raising the author to adulthood.
