Then they returned one at a time and the King made the sign of the cross over them and gave them a Touch Piece. The first record of a gold Touch Piece is under Henry VIII, when it was called an "Angel' because the image on the Touch Piece was of St. Michael, the Archangel. The last Touch Piece was given by Queen Anne in 1714.
