Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Comprising an iron hairpin flat-inlaid with gold showing a butterfly and flowers as well as floral and geometric designs in nonume zogan typical of the Komai style; a finely crafted gilt and silvered metal hairpin with coral beads depicting everything needed for a tea ceremony, including chawan, chazen (teawhisk), a feather for charcoal, ume (plum) blossoms, and a tsetsubin (tea kettle); and two gilt and silvered metal hairpins with coral beads, the ends in the form of lotus flowers with leaves and blossoms. LENGTH 23 cm (the longest) WEIGHT 87.5 g (total) Condition: Very good condition with minor surface wear, small dents, some wear to gilt.
