Four: Major A. J. Nixon, 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade, attached to Ross’ Camel Corps in India Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol (A. J. Nixon, Lieut. 2nd Batt. Rifle Brigade) contemporary engraved naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Lucknow, Central India (Major A. J. Nixon, 2nd Bn. Rifle Bde.); Order of the Medjidie, 5th Class breast badge, silver, gold and enamel; Turkish Crimea, British issue, unnamed, the first three mounted from silver triple brooch bar with the last stitched to the third, all contained in an old fitted display frame; together with two framed portrait photographs believed to be of the recipient and his wife, light pitting, otherwise very fine and better (4) £1600-1800 Footnote Arthur James Nixon was first commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant on 30 April 1847; Lieutenant, October 1851; Captain, December 1854; Brevet Major, July 1858; Major, November 1862. Major Nixon served with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade in the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 10th February, 1855, including the battles of Alma and Inkermann, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Also in India in the suppression of the Mutiny with the 2nd Battalion, at all the actions near Cawnpore from 26th November to 6th December 1857, and at the siege and capture of Lucknow. Subsequently with Ross’ Camel Corps in command of the company of the 2nd Battalion attached to it during the whole of its service from April 1858 to January 1860, including the battle of Golowlie and capture of Calpee (Medal and Clasps, and Brevet of Major).
