Title: Four leaves from Nicolas de Lyra's Postilla super Biblia printed by Johannes Mentelin in 1472 Author: Nicolas de Lyra Place: Strassbourg Publisher: Date: 1472 Description: Four folio leaves, printed in Latin in two columns, rubricated initials, paragraph marks etc. in red. Two leaves are a conjugate bifolium, two are loose, being trimmed slightly along the gutter edge. Bifoliom measures 40.7x29 cm (16x11½"); other two are 39x28.5 cm (15½x11¼"). Handsome printed leaves from the major work of the 13th-14th century French Franciscan monk, which, when printed in Rome in 1471, was the first printed commentary on the Bible. The early edition from which these leaves come were printed by the pioneering German printer Johannes Mentelin, who is most noted as the first printer of the Bible in the German language. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight darkening in top margins, fine or nearly so. Item number: 277059
