Four large 3 panel folding posters for the Shaw-Barton Company, known for their calendars and specialty advertising. Each poster features artwork by legendary pinup artist Rolf Armstrong These are advertising posters for the company's 1942 and 1943 calendars; beneath each illustration is a calendar page for January of the respective year. Included illustrations: "No Bathing Allowed," "Dolores,", and two posters with "Figures Don't Lie", one with a blue background, the other white. Rolf Armstrong was an influential American painter of pin-up art, and during the 1920's and 1930's his work appeared on many pieces of sheet music, as well as on the covers of many magazines, most famously for movie fan magazines such as Photoplay and Screenland. Armstrong's work for the Pictorial Review was largely responsible for that magazine achieving a circulation of more than two million by 1926. Armstrong is considered one of the best "pin-up" artists of the first half of the twentieth century. Scarce in this format. Lot Amendments Condition: Some light wear, mostly at edges and folds, occasional areas of faint foxing or staining, largely on blank backsides, mostly noticeable in the piece with the white background, folds reinforced on back sides as likely originally issued, colors and illustrations bright; all posters very good or better.
